Age: 27Location: Queensland, Gold Coast, AustraliaHeight: 5’8Weight: 80.5kg
How did you get started with fitness and training?
From a young age I was into bodyboarding. I was Australian champion at 16 and loved all sports. I moved to England at 17 were I worked hard and partied harder. I always felt there was something missing. I had this energy deep down that wanted more from myself.
The first time I lifted weights I knew that I was hooked.
At the start it was more mental then anything. I felt weight training was a great energy output that would only take me positive places. I haven’t stopped training since that day which is roughly 6 years ago now.
Where does your motivation come from?
My motivation comes from a place of wanting to better myself everyday.
I want to feel proud every time I step out my front door.
I want to help others to realize that weight training is not just physical. It will and can open anyone’s mind to better themselves.
What’s your current training philosophy?
The first 2 years of training were based around a “split” and a piece of paper with what numbers to push and what weights etc etc. How boring! I feel as I learned more and my body grew so did my approach to my training methods. Yes i isolate single muscle groups daily but that is dependant on how my body is feeling on that day. For instance I trained twice Saturday which wasn’t planned.
That now means I hit every muscle group in the week but had a chance to work on my weaker points which is the basis of any great physique.
Look at your muscle groups that lack and build them. If you have a great chest maintain it if you want a bottom abdominal build it.
What does your diet consist of?
I love to eat oats and berries for breakfast along with Syn Tec Glycowhey. I eat lean cuts of meat with plenty of fibrous green veg up until I train again in the afternoon. I will then eat another oats meal or lean meat and sweet potato. Post training I like to get my insulin spike from a fruit source which is usually 2 bananas.
Do you stay lean all year round or do you bulk and cut?
I believe in being in shape all year round. In saying this if you are in your early 20’s and have room for growth then you need to look at putting on a little body fat to reach your peak weight. This doesn’t mean living off fast foods it means organizing a structured nutritional program which will yield lean muscle gains.
You can stay under 10%bf whilst turning your good physique into a world class physique.
I use Syn Tec Sports Nutrition supplements.
I like the:
- B- Alanine,
If you had to pick only 3 exercises, what would they be and why?
- Chin ups.
Three tips you’d give to someone who’s trying to reach their goal physique?
- Find a world class physique that matches your height (this will give you an indication of were you can take yours)
- Live it (great physiques are not built overnight but over years immerse yourself via nutrition and training)
- Believe (your mental attitude to life is what makes you who you are or what you want to be)
People will rate you, shake you and break you. How strong you stand is what makes you.
